About Creeping Charlie:

About Plantain:

Plantain (Plantago major) has an interesting history entwined with colonization of Turtle Island: It received the name “White man’s footprint” (in translation) by several tribes, as it showed up in the wake of white settlers, along the trails they created. It followed them across the is sometimes the continent. It is sometimes called invasive, but I don’t see that as true at all - because I only see it take over in turf grass, compacted soil, and disturbed land. I have not ever seen it take over in land that is healthy and full of a variety of healthy plants. Plantain comes as a first responder, in the wake of violence and destruction, covering the pathways of bare, raw Earth with its beautiful leaves, helping to prevent mudslides and erosion and to provide first-aid medicine for passing animals and people - topically helping to staunch wounds, heal scrapes and cuts, help mosquito bites not itch, and internally alleviating stomach aches, purifying the blood and therefore all the tissues, by extension, especially the skin.

It grows in compacted soils where other plants cannot, and tolerates being stepped on repeatedly, without harm coming to it. It is said to be ruled by Venus in the Medieval European system of associating planets and plants.
