Violet Breast Oil
Violet Breast Oil
Each 4-ounce bottle comes with a unique, tiny watercolor (shown here) and the recipe, so you yourself can make it next spring, if you choose.
More info: As part of my focus on local, weedy plants as medicine here in Nebraska, I am learning to work with violet more deeply this spring. I had used violet leaf and flower in infusions before, for myself and clients, as a cooling, mucilaginous and anti-inflammatory herb, but I had not used it topically. 🌿 Yet in my reading / herbal research, I found that violet has traditional use infused into oil for massaging the breasts. Because of its gentle but strong effect on the lymphatic system, it is said to help keep breast tissue healthy as well as help restore balance. I am in no position to make medical claims, legally of course, but also just practically speaking, as this is not a medicine I know super well, so if you are curious, read about violet in any herbal books - it is stunning how powerful this humble, abundant, little plant is said to be. So, I just had to make some violet breast oil! 🌿
Regarding Breast massage (self and other!):
I got into the practice a few years ago through my ayurveda studies. In ayurvedic bodywork, the breasts are massaged and treated just like any other body part. I found that massaging my own breasts regularly relieved the painful soreness due to swelling which I experienced before my period each month. It is counter-intuitive to many, but I found that when breasts are most sore was when they needed massage the most. Also, the idea of breast self-exam always rubbed me the wrong way. It makes so much more sense to just be in the practice of giving love to ones breasts regularly, and paying attention to them! 🌿 Regarding technique, I think you already know what to do. But also, circles are good. And getting into the armpits is good too. 🌿
